Dry Puppy Food
Giving your puppy a complete dry food has many advantages over tinned food and will keep your puppy healthy and happy in body and mind.
Advantages:
- The abrasion of solid food on teeth helps keep them
stronger, and helps keep gums healthier too. - It is easy to measure the quantity.
- Your puppies breath will be less smelly!
- You can give it as treats.
- It is good for the digestive system.
- Firmer poo, so helpful when toilet training your puppy.
- Stays fresh longer than wet food and you don’t have the half eaten tin in the fridge.
Of course, as a special treat you could pour some meat juices over the top. There are dry food brands that can have hot water added to create a gravy like meal and usually fall into the semi-moist category.
If adding extras to dry food, be careful it is not too salty, as too much salt as it is bad for their internal organs and can cause
kidney problems.
A good quality complete dry food is better value for money as it contains more of the important nutrients that puppies need. So if you can afford the “premium” quality, you can give your puppy less than you would do if you bought a cheaper brand.
Puppies have small stomachs but require food that will give them a lot of energy.
Food that contains chicken and rice is among the most easy to digest and a good choice.
If changing from wet to dry (or the other way around!) do so gradually over a period of days to allow your puppy’s digestive system time to get used to the change.
Remember that with dry food, water must always be available.
However, with the bewildering amount of products available, it is difficult to choose which is the best dry food for your dog but one of the most popular makes and highly recommended by vets is: Hill’s Canine Puppy Chicken Food and comes with a 10% discount on your first order from Zooplus.
