Dog Friendly Holidays
Finding a holiday that is suitable for you and your puppy or adult dog can be a tricky business. However, the options for dog friendly holidays, so that your pet can accompany you, are becoming greater.
There are now hundreds of holiday properties across the country which include cottages, apartments and even hotels that are dog friendly and prepared to accommodate pets.
There are also caravan parks and camp sites that allow pets should you want a more outdoor option and no worry about any little puddle that may appear on the holiday cottage carpet if you are in a tent!
For my wife and I, leaving our dog in kennels when we go on holiday is not an option because she is so much a part of our family unit that if there were not places that we could take her, we would probably stay at home. Thankfully there are lots of options for really good dog friendly holidays, and if you organize and plan ahead a little, everything should run smoothly and be a great success.
Dog Unfriendly Holidays!
If you take your dog with you on holiday, you will know the restrictions to many places where you are not welcome – even with a well behaved small dog, but it seems that screaming children with ice creams can go anywhere!
Well we have taken Mindy on English holidays since she was seven as our family circumstances changed so we had lost our main babysitters due to ill health.
We realised how restricted we’d be, but decided to include Mindy as often as possible so she could enjoy the holiday like us! To date we’ve been on the electric tramway in East Devon from Seaton to Colyton, the Yorkshire Valley Railway in Yorkshire, the Severn Valley Railway in Bridgenorth, the car ferry in Cornwall from Polruan to Fowey, and a jeep in Tintagel, Cornwall to name but a few!
Why don’t you try this too? We bought a notebook and we stick all the dog friendly holiday places and tickets where Mindy has been accepted so far… it helps us remember in case we visit those places again!
There is also a campaign that’s run by the Kennel Club called “Open for Dogs” which aims to encourage and promote businesses who let dogs in to their establishments such as cafes, libraries, pubs and restaurants etc. More information may be found in the pages links.
So, with dog friendly holidays growing and other opportunities to include your best friend and boldly go where no dog has been before, all we need now is some good weather!
