Dog Beds
Dog beds play a major roll in your dog’s life. Not only do they sleep in them, they use their bed when they want some seclusion with their favourite toy or chew but most importantly it will be a safe place for recovery when your dog has had some injury or ailment and needs to have some quiet time to themselves.
When choosing a bed for your dog take into account the size you will need. Obviously all puppies are small but many breeds grow up very fast and big so in a matter of weeks they could have outgrown their new dog bed!
There are many dog beds out in the shops and online today. They are available in different sizes, shapes, colours and styles, you’ll be spoilt for choice! The RSPCA recommend some beds and have endorsed this by having their logo printed on each bed.
A small breed of dog usually likes a snug fit and some of these small breeds also like a cover over the top of them when they sleep. Some beds come with a roof part. If this is not available to you then when you put some blankets inside the dog bed, cover your small dog over so they can snuggle right into the blanket.
Large breeds need a larger bed and they don’t need a roof covering unless they are sleeping outside in a wooden kennel like many police and guard dogs do. These larger beds can consist of just a strong fabric or can be made of durable plastic for you to then put your own dog blankets into the dog’s bed.
When buying a plastic bed you will need to buy a soft mattress to fit inside to make it more comfortable for your dog. These mattresses are usually shaped to fit each size of plastic bed and come in a range of colours before their blankets go on top.
All fabric dog beds are machine washable with removable mattresses while the plastic beds are wipe clean. The RSPCA make a plush antibacterial pet duvet with a removable zipped cover.
Fabric beds are available in corduroy, faux suede, velvet, cotton and fleece outer covers with 100% polyester filling. Others available are a unique thermal bedding which reflects your dog’s lost body heat back onto your pet to keep them warm. There is also a dog bed which is waterproof 100% PU leather outer cover with a 100% polypropylene inner cover, this comes with a Visco elastic memory foam crumb filling instead of buying a separate mattress.
Plastic beds are made of heavyweight durable plastic and have ventilation air holes in the base with wide rimmed sides for extra comfort and room. They also have high access to the frontage to keep the mattress and blankets in place.
Whether you shop in the pet shops on the high street or online, your bound to find the right bed that is suitable for your dog. Don’t delay, have a look around today, give your dog the best you can afford, your dog will reward you with unconditional love in return.
