Dog Skin Problems

ALTERNATIVE REMEDY FOR DOG SKIN & COAT PROBLEMS

A healthy dog is a happy dog but unfortunately some dogs will suffer with skin conditions at some point in their lives.  The problem may lead to constant scratching, thinning or balding hair patches and sore skin.  This can involve vet bills which are rather expensive not forgetting the stress for your pet too.

healthycoatPicAlternative pet remedy is a good idea to help your pet back on the road to recovery without putting too much strain on your budget or extra stress for your pet.  It is always a good idea to try some alternative remedy before trying the medical drug solution.

In some cases of course this cannot be helped when it comes to serious conditions, but if your pet is suffering from a skin condition, it is well worth the research.  The time and effort that you put in searching online could save you quite a packet and could really help your dog.

10% of dogs suffer from skin conditions such as eczema and atopy.  Atopy is a skin condition caused by a allergic reaction to something.  This develops into constant scratching which in turn tears at the coat hair and skin.  This then makes the skin so sensitive that it then becomes a vicious circle of allergic reaction, scratching, hair loss, sore skin etc.

If you search online you can check and find some health sites that provide alternative remedies for your dog.  They are harmless and made up of herbs, vitamins and mineral ingredients.  Humans take supplements so why shouldn’t dogs?

Supplement that contain evening primrose and cod liver oil are good for your dog.  This can reduce the symptoms of your dog’s scratching, hair loss and sore skin.  This dog vitamin supplement (above) is made of beef and caramel flavour so your dog will really like it.  If they find it difficult to take it by mouth whole as a tablet or capsule, you can break it over their biscuit or food and they can eat it that way.  Many dog owners have said how their dogs enjoyed the beef and caramel taste and how it has helped their coat and skin.

Why don’t you search online today and find an alternative remedy for your dog?  Your dog is worth the world to you and more, surely you can help your dog back in return for their undying love and devotion to you?  It will help you both and save you time, expense and undue stress.  Only then if the alternative remedy fails then you could seek veterinary advise.

Miss. E. Rye from Wales said it had worked for her Labrador.  He had suffered from skin redness and loss of fur.  The tablets really helped him, his fur grew back and the tablets helped to keep the fur shinny too.

Mrs. S. Cooke from Scotland said her beagle had atopy all year round but since seeking out and using an alternative remedy, her beagle’s red skin condition had been reduced.  She bathes her dog less frequently now as the healthy alternative keeps her dog’s skin oils balanced.

Miss. G. Rossiter from Harlow said she found her dog’s skin really improved
when she broke the capsules and put the alternative remedy content onto her dog food as the capsule casing was hard for her dog to chew.

Many vets approve of alternative remedies now before taking a medical action.  It will improve the wellbeing of your dog and will lead to a fuller and happier life for you both.

Mikki Puppy Grooming Kit

PUPPY GROOMING KITS

The Mikki puppy grooming kit is an ideal starter pack to use on your new puppy.  All puppies need grooming and this should be started as soon as you get your new puppy.  It will help it to get used to being groomed as well as keeping its coat clean, detangled and free from any fleas or dirt.

puppygroomingIt comes complete with a rubber slicker brush, a comb and a flea comb too.  The best deals are usually the ones that are online. You can buy in the comfort of your own home without queuing in shops or car park fees.  The Mikki puppy grooming kitis great value for money too getting three tools in one kit.

The slicker brush removes the loose dead hair and this is used for both moulting and none moulting puppies.

If your puppy has been out in the garden or is particularly dirty, then it would be best to cover the floor with some papers or old towels.  You might even consider wearing an apron. Start at the back of the neck and gently brush down to the tail.  Continue the same brush strokes until the whole back and side areas are covered.  Next move onto the head and ears, keeping the brush strokes to the same way that the hair grows.

The tummy can be particularly tricky to do so here are two suggestions how to brush that area.  Either hold your puppy upright by underneath it’s chest and front legs so it’s standing on it’s back legs and brush down from the neck to the groin.  Two reasons why this method can be tricky, firstly the puppy will be wobbly on it’s hind legs and will struggle against you as all the puppy’s weight will be on it’s hind legs.  Secondly your hands holding beneath the puppy’s upper chest means that access to brush the puppy’s front underarms and top chest will be restricted.

The second suggestion is to turn your puppy onto it’s back on your lap or on the floor where you can start to brush right under the mouth and neck area.  You now have free access to lift each underarm to brush then continue down the tummy towards the groin and inside thigh.  You puppy will probably prefer this method as they are more stable without restrictions besides the fact that every puppy likes their tummy rubbed!  It’s just in this case it’s brushing their tummy instead.

Always leave the legs till last as they usually are the most dirtiest of the whole body.  Make sure your puppy is standing upright then proceed to push each leg from the top of the leg to the paw.  Check each paw after each walk as the paws could have grit, tarmac, chewing gum or a thorn stuck with the pad itself.  This could cause some discomfort for your puppy as well as expensive vet bills.  Remember prevention is better than cure!

After you have used the slicker brush on the whole of your puppy, you can use the comb that is supplied in the Mikki puppy grooming pack to remove any tangles within the hair.  This will more than likely be under the tummy area, especially if they are a small breed, and on each leg.

If you have been walking through the park with your puppy or playing in the garden it would be wise to check you puppy’s coat with the flea comb.  The flea comb is the third tool that is included in the grooming kit.

Fleas can occur at any time not just when your puppy is in a grassland area.  Puppies can catch fleas from other dogs too as well as plants.  Fleas can breed very quickly and need to be controlled as soon as possible before it can spread into your home and onto all the puppy’s bedding and toys, as well as your furniture and carpets before they get onto humans.  Using the flea comb that is supplied with the pack with greatly reduce the risk to your puppy along with a keen eye.

When using the flea comb, try combing the hair in opposite motion to the growth of hair, this way you can clearly see the puppy hair and clean skin. Any fleas that are there will be clear to the naked eye ad they will be very quick to move within the puppy hair.

If you do notice that your puppy has fleas, there are many treatments out on the market which will kill the fleas.  If left untreated, your puppy will continue scratching to such a degree that they can rub their hair and skin so they are left balding and bleeding.  Remember it is better to notice any change in your puppy’s hair and skin using a flea comb regularly than to have your puppy in some discomfort and more expensive vet bills.

The slicker brush and comb are essential after bathing your puppy too.  Being a responsible dog owner means always looking out for the welfare of your puppy.  Your puppy will be a happy puppy when cleaned and groomed daily.

Why not buy a Mikki puppy grooming kit today for your puppy or for someone your know?  They make a great gift at any time of the season, especially for the puppy.  It is great value for money as it contains the three tools you will need to use on a regular basis.  This will save you money than buying all three separately.  What are you waiting for?  Do it today!  You’re puppy’s worth it.

Automatic Pet Feeders

If you are away from home for any length of time, then automatic pet feeders are a great way to feed your pet if you are unable to be there at a meal time, giving re-assurance to you and keeping your pet healthy and happy . You can even record your own voice message!

autopetlcdThese feeders usually work on batteries and there may be around four compartments to place the pet food.  One you have set the clock then the feeder turns around at the times that you have set.  This allows your pet to eat it’s measured food from each compartment if it has to stay behind at home.  Always make sure you supply fresh water in your pet’s water bowl and place this beside the feeder.

The pet feeder contains ice packs underneath the main unit so if you need to serve the pet’s food at a cooler temperature, you would freeze the ice blocks the night before in the freezer.  Just return the freezer blocks underneath the main unit then place your pet’s measured food into each compartment and set the clock.  Next set the four timer markers that are clearly marked on the clock to your pet’s usual feeding time.  Now you will have one happy pet!

automatic pet feedersAutomatic pet feedersare easy to clean as they are plastic.  The lid removes completely as well as the compartment unit where you will see the ice block packs.  The whole unit can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.  If the unit is very dirty, the lid and main compartment can be washed separately in warm soddy water and dried with a cloth.

It is best to place the feeder and water bowl next to each other on a wipe clean mat in case of spills.  Dogs especially should not be left for many long hours alone, but if you are rushing home to walk your dog, then the food will literally be taken care of itself!  All you would need to do after walking your dog is to give it a few treats and more fresh water.  You could check the  feeder to make sure everything is working correctly.  There should be a little visual display beside the clock that will show you the batteries are working.

They make a wonderful gift for a new owner with a busy lifestyle or even you’re your pet!  Automatic pet feeders would be guaranteed for one year too.  If you search online you will find better prices than on the high street and they are very good value for money.  Go on treat your pet today, what are you waiting for?

Dog Grooming Kits

Dog grooming kits are extremely useful for providing the main items you need to get started with grooming your dog.

puppygroomingThe information below gives a good indication of the grooming required for the different breeds of dog.

Minimum Grooming
The dogs in this category are generally short or smooth haired breeds.  They usually require grooming twice in the week.  This should be increased during their moulting season or when the temperature changes which encourages natural hair loss.
Nails, ears, eyes and anal glands should be checked at the same time as grooming the coat.  Bathing these breeds only needs to be carried out if they begin to smell ‘doggy’.

Daily Grooming
These breeds need daily brushingto remove all the dead undercoat and to prevent matting or felting.  Attention needs to be paid the feathering (long hair) on their ears, legs and tail, a thorough combing will prevent tangling.  Nails, ears and eyes can be checked daily or twice weekly.  Paw pads should be checked for foreign bodies ie grass seeds especially between the toes.  Smooth coat breeds that appear in this category needs checking especially around their excessive facial wrinkles to keep them clean.

WahlCruftsClipperSetAdditional Grooming
These breeds of dogs need daily coat care as above plus a six to eight week haircut of either clipping, having the hair stripped or scissoring depending on the breed and the owner’s choice of style.

Brushes
Pin brush This is particularly suitable for regular brushing of breeds with long hair such as the Afghan and Pekingese.

Slicker Brush
This is a light weight brush used on curly coats such as the Poodle and Bichon Frise.

Bristle brush
This has tufts of soft, pure bristles, best for straight, silky-haired breeds such as the Yorkshire Terrier.

Hound Glove
This is suitable for smooth-coated dogs such as the Great Dane and Chihuahua.

Combs
Half fine/half coarse comb This is the best type of comb for general use consisting of half fine and half course teeth.

De-matting Comb

This comb has wide spaced teeth with a handle and is used on dogs who have badly matted hair.

7” Barber Scissors
These scissors have long straight blades which taper to a point.  Depending on your preference you can have these scissors in various lengths and a finger rest, thought the seven-inch scissors is good for general use.

Thinning Scissors
These are for thinning the hair rather than a blunt thick cut.  It’s best to choose one with a serrated blade one side and a regular scissor blade on the other.

wahlmulticutClippers
There are various models available for amateur and professional use.
Clipper and blade care Both blades and clippers must be cleaned after each use from any hair residue.  Use the manufacturers guidelines regarding oiling the clippers to keep them in good working condition.

Stripping Knives
There are many different styles of stripping knives for both left and right handed use.  These knives consist of a blade with sharp teeth giving a cutting action, mounted on a handle made of plastic, wood or aluminium.  Different sizes of teeth give varying degrees of fineness.

Nail Clippers
These come in a variety of styles but it’s best to choose the guillotine type rather than the plier type as the latter type squeezes the dogs nail causing it aggravation.

The above are some of the most useful items that may be found in dog grooming kits.
